Myanmar (Burma): Insider Travel Guide

Myanmar, formerly Burma, is an almost untouched country in Southeast Asia. The reason: Myanmar suffered from military rule for almost 50 years, a trip to the country was far too dangerous for tourists. Myanmar is only slowly being discovered. His landscapes are magnificent, the ancient temples are particularly impressive.

In the old royal city of Bagan, you can’t see the forest for the temples. Over 4000 temples were built here between the 11th and 13th centuries – on an area of over 40 square meters. The best way to see the temples and pagodas is from above: book a hot air balloon ride!

After the many temples, the trip to the south is worthwhile. Our tip: The best thing to do is relax at Chaung Tha beach. You can reach the small town with a wonderful beach, for example by bus from Yangon. If there is too much going on there on the beach, you should simply stroll along the water for a few minutes. The reward: fantastic, almost deserted beaches!

When to go The climate is best in Myanmar between October and February inclusive: it hardly rains and the heat is also limited. Disadvantage: During this period, the dry season, most people are in the country. If you want to put up with that, then book your hotel room early!
